How to fight it

The first piece of advice we can give you to effectively combat water retention is undoubtedly to try to use ever smaller quantities of salt at the table.

In fact, it is better to avoid pouring salt on dishes that are already savory, such as meat or fish.

Another rule that must certainly be respected is that which provides for a lower consumption of foods in which we find high quantities of sodium: we are essentially talking about cheeses, salami, pizza and so on.

Do not completely eliminate these foods, but try to limit them appropriately, perhaps trying not to take them more than once a day.

In any case, it is also essential to follow a low-calorie diet, which can make it possible to reduce or completely eliminate overweight, and then start a lifestyle and diet aimed at fighting excess water retention.

Water retention

It is a disorder that affects women in a particular way and the causes that can determine it derive mainly from heart or kidney dysfunctions and allergic inflammations of various types.

In most cases, however, this disorder derives from an incorrect diet and a lifestyle that is anything but healthy.

Water retention, following purely medical terms, is that aptitude to store excessive liquids inside the human body and, in particular, this accumulation is concentrated above all in all those areas that have a high tendency to store fat.

Water retention manifests itself, in particular, with edema, which results in a swelling of the part that has been affected by the excessive accumulation of liquids.

This, however, produces disturbances to the venous and lymphatic circulation and can also cause the stagnation of a large number of toxins that heavily affect cellular metabolism.

Herbal teas against water retention

In order to effectively combat water retention, one of the alternatives available to us is undoubtedly that of drinking a herbal tea.

Be careful, however, because each herbal tea carries out a specific action and, for this reason, directs its beneficial effects towards a particular pathology.

This explains why we may need to drink an herbal tea that favors a better functioning of the kidneys, or that improves diuresis or, again, that allows better blood circulation.

Herbal teas are particularly recommended when it comes to treating people who suffer from swelling and water retention and, specifically, with all those women who have to fight it, for example, during menstruation.

The most important medicinal herbs that can guarantee an excellent diuretic action are, without a doubt, fennel, elderberry, butcher's broom, orthosipon, nettle, but also asparagus and ononide.

Beneficial effects

Frequently, it is nature itself that allows us to fight various diseases or disorders: even in the case of water retention, we can find numerous plants and medicinal herbs that are able to perform a fundamental action to reduce and eliminate water retention.

These are herbs that allow you to perform a stimulating action on the natural expulsion of liquids from the body.

Among the main herbs with which excellent herbal teas can be made, we find nettle and birch, which have the main beneficial effect of allowing the body to acquire better drainage from excess fluids.

Water retention herbal teas: foods to combine with herbal teas

To combat water retention it is necessary to strictly follow a diet that includes a high amount of dietary fiber, in order to avoid constipation.

This explains the reason why it is advisable to eat lots of fruit and vegetables and, specifically, all those foods that contain ascorbic acid, or a particular vitamin that is characterized by carrying out a protective action against the blood capillaries.

The foods that contain considerable quantities of ascorbic acid (which, in simple terms, is vitamin C) are fresh fruits, therefore pineapple, strawberries, cherries and kiwis, but also various fresh vegetables, such as spinach , lettuce and broccoli.

Finally, even a good number of fresh vegetables can boast a considerable contribution of vitamin C, such as tomatoes, cabbage and cauliflower, as well as among the tubers especially new potatoes stand out.

At least one day a week it is advisable to integrate a diet extremely rich in liquid substances (it is advisable to drink herbal teas against water retention, tea and fruit juices), but it is also necessary to replace meat with fish, because it has a higher level digestibility, but at the same time has a smaller amount of connective tissues.

Furthermore, it is important to drink a lot of water, since being able to boast regular and constant hydration is certainly an effective measure to eradicate, if not completely, at least partially, water retention.
